JB Head Shot

John "JB" Byrne wasn't in the department his first year. He was nervous because the BFA wouldn't qualify him for a teaching license. Still he quickly became a fixture in the department, dapper at show time or party time in his bow tie and jacket. He fell into our orbit by gravitational pull.

The next year he joined us officially and never looked back.

JB made Chicago his professional home. He thought it was a great theater town. Chicago was lucky to have him. So were we.

JB was a professional actor, writer and director to the end. But he was also a great teacher, even without the license.
