Peer Gynt
What did Peer say? What did the
beast say?

Joel Gersmann was the first director most of the Class of '77 encountered at Adelphi. As guest director of Peer Gynt, Joel's irreverent, provocative, take-no-prisoners style of theater was tough on the actors (especially our knees), rough on the audience, but absolutely original and unforgettable.

Joel was a nationally recognized director. As founder of the Broome Street Theater in Madison, Wisconsin, Joel's productions regularly raised the blood pressure of that city's town fathers. Theatre '77 alum Chaz Valenza worked with Joel at Broome Street for several years.

Here's a link to Joel's obit in the New York Times .
